I thought this might be a fun way to keep everyone up to date on my business.
So I guess I'll start by giving a general overview to get everyone on the same page.
I graduated from Millikin University in Decatur, IL last year with a BFA in graphic design and photography. I was doing freelance work before I graduated, but once I received the degree I officially set up my business. I've been doing photography, graphic design and web design for a little over a year now, and loving every minute of it!
I feel that too many companies don't get to know their clients personally. The work they put out is generic or current with the times, but it likes that personal touch. I try to get to know my clients - their interests, goals, needs - before I start working on their project. I find that by doing this my clients save time and money and end up getting a product that is unique and personalized to them.
This is also true of photography. If you look the pictures you see on photographer websites many of them are very similar. Occasionally you will find a picture that is creative and different, but it usually isn't long before someone else is using their idea too. It's hard to create unique pictures. My goal is to get to know my photography clients too and do the best I can to reflect their personality and passions into their pictures.
Enough of my philosophy...Business is doing fairly well right now despite the economy. I do a lot of work from home, but I often drive in to Decatur for business meetings or to do a photo shoot in my studio.
As far as marketing goes, I've got business cards and my website. I've also started sending out a bunch of postcards to next years seniors in the Decatur area. I've got a wedding booked for June of 2010 and a tentative one in September of this year. I'm constantly doing updates for the Pana Chamber of Commerce website I created, and am working on a website for PKM Learning Services.
Well - I think this post has gotten long enough. I'll do my best to keep this blog updated. Feel free to leave your thoughts or comments for me here! I would love to hear from you!
